Puron is a refrigerant like R-22 but is safe for the ozone. 20 or 50 year’s ago science discovered refrigerant like R-22, R-12 and several other refrigerants caused the ozone to become depleted. The ozone protects us from ultra violet rays that cause skin cancer. To prevent this a phase out program was passed into law. In 1996, a cap of 15 million kilograms was implemented. In 2004, this cap was reduced 35%. In 2010 the cap will be reduced another 35% and again in 2015. In 2020, no more can be used.

So beginning in 2003 the price of R-22 will go up. In 2010, it will go even higher and higher in 2005. If you buy an R-22 A/C now and a leak occurs in the next 5 years, the cost to recharge could be hundreds of dollars.
